Field Trio – Fraser River Rock

  • Meeting Location – Rancher’s Restaurant Parking Lot, 53560 Bridal Falls Road Rosedale, BC
  • Material – Fraser River Rock
  • Equipment – Rock hammer, bag or bucket to carry items and a squirt bottle with water
  • Vehicle – Car
  • Other – Bundle up with layers as the gravel bars can be breezy and cold. May also be rainy. Good hiking boots will reduce the risk of twisting an ankle on the slippery rocks.

    Field Trip – Petrified Wood

    • Where – Stemwinder
    • Date & Time – Sunday June 21, 2015 9:00am
    • Meeting Location – Stemwinder Provincial Park, Hedley, BC V0X 1K0 Between Princeton & Hedley – 33km east of Princeton
    • Material – Petrified Wood
    • Equipment – Rock hammer, digging tools, shovel, pick, three prong cultivator (weed scratcher) gloves, water squirt bottle, buckets. Be prepared for changing weather conditions – clothing (layers). Hat to protect from the sun. Hiking shoes/boots or other sturdy footwear recommended.
    • Vehicle – Easy drive by car (full tank of gas)

    Field Trip – Fossils

    • Where – Blackmine Road, Princeton
    • Date & Time – Sunday July 5, 2015 9:00am
    • Meeting Location – A&W, BC-3, Princeton, BC
    • Material – Fossil leaves, ferns, and occasional insects in a layered mudstone
    • Equipment – Rock hammer, digging tools, knife for separating layers, gloves, water squirt bottle, buckets. Packaging for the fragile specimens such as boxes, flats & paper. Newsprint is not recommended as the ink can rub onto the specimens. Be prepared for changing weather conditions – clothing (layers). Hat to protect from the sun. Hiking shoes/boots or other sturdy footwear recommended.
    • Vehicle – Easy drive by car (full tank of gas)

    • Meeting Location – Fas Gas Plus, 48165 Trans Canada Highway, Boston Bar, BC
    • Material – Red Skin Agates
    • Equipment – Rock hammer, digging tools, gloves, water squirt bottle, buckets. Be prepared for changing weather conditions – clothing (layers). Hat to protect from the sun. Hiking shoes/boots or other sturdy footwear recommended. Hat to protect from the sun.
    • Vehicle – High clearance vehicle or pickup truck is recommended (full tank of gas). Gravel backroads with little maintenance.
    • Other – Bring food, water, back pack. Be sure to check with the WagonMaster before you go!!

    • Meeting Location – Sunday Summit, Hwy 3, approximately 32 km south of Princeton (Sunday Summit is the descent into Princeton, where Highway 5A begins)
    • Material – Petrified Wood
    • Equipment – Rock hammer, digging tools, gloves, water squirt bottle, buckets. Be prepared for changing weather conditions – clothing (layers). Hat to protect from the sun. Hiking shoes/boots or other sturdy footwear recommended.
    • Vehicle – Any vehicle can travel these maintained logging roads (full tank of gas)
    • Other – Bring food, water, back pack. Be sure to check with the WagonMaster before you go!!

    • Equipment – Rock hammer, chisel, digging tools, gloves, water squirt bottle, buckets. Be prepared for changing weather conditions – clothing (layers). Hat to protect from the sun. Hiking shoes/boots or other sturdy footwear recommended.

    Always call the trip leader the day before to ensure the trip is going, and that there have been no other changes.

    Remember to wear layered clothing to be able to adjust to weather conditions at the location, bring a lunch and water on all field trips.

    Ensure your vehicle has a full tank of gas.
